A black figure planted in the setting like a casting error. An opaque mass that refuses to play the game of photogenic heritage. The silhouette is a blot. A body-obstacle in the postcard. Alienated in its own attempt at disalienation. Seeking its roots in a soil sold by the tourist square metre, laying claim to a heritage already turned into a museum piece.

This Quest Is Not Available to You

The drapery has swallowed the silhouettes. Serves you right. Heritage has closed up shop. Serves everyone right. The work operates by withdrawal. It removes the possibility of visual consumption. The act of looking is denied, leaving nothing but the physical fact of refusal, the gesture of turning away from the exchange of gazes that would reduce the work to consumable imagery.
